I sometimes tell people my interest in birds began with rock climbing. Unlikely as that…
I have just returned home from my week at the Oasis and thought I would send you my thoughts on the trip. The first thing that comes to mind is that everyone kept thanking me for coming out to work for a week. While I appreciate the thanks, the people that actually deserve a thank you from every parrot owner is the crew that works out there everyday. I only spent a week there and I am totally exhausted and can”t wait to crawl into bed. All of you do this work everyday seven days a week 365 days a year. ‘, ‘I watched everyone out there and the care that was displayed for the birds by each and everyone there was inspiring to say the least. The birds come first in every step taken from the feeding and watering to cleaning in and around the cages. No human takes a lunch break until all of the bird dishes has been washed, dried, filled and replaced in the flights or cages and through all of this I never heard a complaint from anyone. All I ever heard was worries about this bird that needs watching, or how another one has picked a girl/boyfriend and is really happy. All of the conversations that I heard showed nothing but care and compassion by every person that works there.
This was my third yearly trip and the advances and improvements to the properties are nothing less than exceptional. The mini flights in the pole barn, the macaw flight , the male and female Cockatoo flights are amazing. All of the birds that are in the flights are happy and seem to really enjoy having the space to be with their mates and flock. I know that it takes a lot of time and energy to make all of the birds happy and just looking at the birds shows that everyone there is spending the required time to make them happy.
I had a chance to spend a little time with everyone there and it was obvious to me that the priority is the care of the birds. I can”t say enough good things about the staff of the Oasis Sanctuary and feel that you, Joe, Julie, Jean, Ben, Caleb, Ann Marie, Nancy and Sybil deserve the thanks for caring for all of those birds and not me.
Thanks again for letting me be part of such an outstanding team even if was just for a week. I hope that I will be able to join you next year to help out again and for a week be part of such an outstanding group of people.
Thank you,
Carlton Landrum
