I was born in a small town in Alabama. However I would not be there for long because when you are born into a military family you end up traveling a lot. All of that traveling around the country and Europe helped prepare me for my eventual move to Arizona from Illinois.

My love for animals didn’t become apparent to me until I started working at Niabi Zoo in Coal Valley Illinois. It was there where I began working my way up the ladder to finally become a seasonal zookeeper. I worked with various species of birds and mammals like bald eagles, eclectus parrots, dromedary camels and reticulated giraffes. Working with those different species and many others was fantastic!  It wasn’t until I saw the individual personalities of all the different birds that I knew I wanted to pursue a career that would let me work with them even more.
Being here I have come to enjoy working with all the birds. They all have their quirks and funny enough their own favorite people. If I had to pick a favorite it would have to be Lily Rose our female Rose Breasted Cockatoo. Since the first day I volunteered here she has almost never failed to fly onto my shoulder and show me a little bit of love. Working here I have garnered a new respect for their resiliency and fighting spirit. I have really enjoyed myself working here and I can’t wait to see what the future may bring professionally and personally.
