Oasis Wish List --- Winter 2010
The Oasis Sanctuary always needs the following:
Volunteers: Our most important commodity is YOU.
We need Volunteers in every area….from on-site help with caretaking to maintenance, construction, electrical, welding or plumbing work. Off-site we can use office help (in Phoenix.)
Contact Charlotte in our Business Office 602-863-1543 to see how you can help with shows, mailings, or working on important committees. If you wish to help on or off-site and you are in Tucson or elsewhere in Southern Arizona, contact Julie at 520-212-4737.
We very much need Manufactured or mobile home – We still are seeking a serviceable and/or repairable single or double-wide home to be used for employee housing. As the Oasis grows, we need to increase the number of care-giving Staff members. As we are in a very rural location, there are no “rentals” available anywhere close to us and we therefore provide housing for our Staff. Often, obtaining a nice used manufactured home is the single most expensive part of hiring new people. Can you help? Oasis will raise the funds for installation and may be able to pay for transport within 500+/- miles, which includes most of California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico and Texas. Call Sybil at 520-212-4737 or email sybil@the-oasis.org if you think you have a home for us!
More equipment and structures we truly need:
- Small backhoe for digging larger areas such as aviary foundations.
- King Pic-A-Watt Unit Heater / Model #KBP2406 - With our new aviaries and
aging supply we will need to obtain multiple heaters to keep the birds warm
during our chilly winter. Please contact us if you need further details.
- A Tuff Shed type shed.
- A Walk-in cooler. The small one we have is working fine, but is not large enough to handle the weekly supply of produce for the 600+ birds in residence!
- A Commercial Grade Beverage Cooler. Our older cooler is showing signs of wear. We use this cooler to hold and chill approx 60 gallons of filtered water for the birds, among other food supplies we use daily. If you can help contact us for size requirements.
- Industrial pedestal or hanging fans (for the Pole Barn)
- DR Walk Behind Weed Eater/Trimmer
- DR Power Grader
There are items we use every day for the birds:
- Toys, particularly large wooden toys and various swings for the big, more destructive birds.
- Bath towels (new or used) – we use these on the bottom of the disabled birds’ cages to give them a cushioned surface to stand on. Large towels are needed at this time. We have a sufficient supply of small hand towels and wash clothes for the smaller birds.
- Treats such as millet spray; roasted in-the-shell pistachios, human grade roasted unsalted peanuts and other in-the-shell human grade nuts, in particular almonds and walnuts. Note: we are dealing with very large numbers of birds so a minimum 5 pound bag or larger is recommended for cost efficiency.
- Newspapers for use in cage cleaning. If you are coming to visit and are driving, a collection of clean newspaper is always very much appreciated.
- Cage/Aviary building supplies such as weld-wire, steel or iron for welding the panels, metal roofing.
- T-posts and Fencing Materials.
- Free standing Bird Baths for the aviaries/flights.
- Grill Brush with Scraper – Short handled, single sided brush preferred. We use these to clean perches, cages, and other cage materials.
Please keep in mind – if your Bird or Business needs it, The Oasis Sanctuary can use it!
