If you have kids you probably know who Flat Stanley is. I don't have children so a visit from Flat Stanley was a fun learning experience for me.
Recently I came across the letters and photos that were taken when Flat Stanley made a visit to The Oasis. I enjoyed re-reading the story so much that I thought it would be fun to share. Julie Dyson, our Associate Director, corresponded with a student in Connecticut about Flat Stanley's adventure. I'm sharing their correspondence verbatim and the fun pictures that tell the story.
Dear friends of birds,
I am a student in third grade. I read a story called Flat Staney. Staney had adventures while he was flat. This is Stanely. He would like to learn about birds with you. Please send hime back after his adventure is done.
Thank you for helping us.

Thank you so much for sending your friend, Flat Stanley, to spend time with us at The Oasis Sanctuary. I think he had a blast. And all except for one minor bird bite, I think he is okay and ready to go on more adventures. I'll try to document his visit for you.
First Flat Stanley arrived at the sanctuary and was introduced to the staff and volunteers who take excellent care of the birds that call The Oasis home each and every day of the year. Most of these birds are here for a reason, as parrots can bite. They also get very loud and are not always the best of pets. The birds of The Oasis are here for the rest of their lives as we do not adopt out or breed. Sometimes larger parrots can live to be 60 to 80 years old. Here is Stanley's arrival.
Flat Stanley visited the aviaries. Here he is in the Macaw flight.
Here Flat Stanley made friends with Erin the Macaw.
Here's Flat Stanley hanging out in the Cockatiel Aviary.
Flat Stanley became the victim of a bullying incident by Rambo the Quail. We have to remind Rambo that nobody likes a bully and that type of behavior is not acceptable.
I hope Flat Stanley enjoyed his visit. I'm sure he learned a lot. I've enclosed some information on The Oasis that I thought you might want to share with your class.
May you have many more wonderful adventures Flat Stanley!!
Dear Mrs. Dyson,
Thank you for bringing my Stanely for lots of adventures with birds. Thak you for the pictues and CD. I watched the CD. It was fantastice. The pictures you gave me were awesome. Some pictures that you gave me with birds, some were kinds of birds that I never seen before. I am giving you this letter because I wanted to thank you for helping my Stanley. I also heard that my Stanley got bitten by a bird and bulled, but I put a bandaid on the bird bite.
